Newsletter

The Hope and Sunrise Historical Society has 120 members. The primary purpose of the newsletter is to notify members of upcoming meetings and programs. In addition to meeting notices, the newsletter tells members about the society's recent accomplishments and current projects. Past programs have included guided walks of the Sunrise Historic District and stage performances. The newsletter earned Alaska Historical Society's Elva R. Scott Local Historical Society Newsletter Award in 2009. Each summer, three or four newsletters are sent by mail or email. To encourage members to receive the newsletter electronically, the email version has extra pages including Hope historical information.

If you wish to receive timely newsletters and hear about upcoming programs, join us. Send $10/year or $100/life to: P. O. Box 88, Hope, AK 99605. During the Pandemic, think of joining at the $100 life membership level because we really need the money.

Look at HSHS's first newsletter, May 1972, posted below. Editor Rosemarie Knecht Levine reported that Hope's new society representatives were well received at the Alaska Historical Society meeting, the federal government had recently recognized the Hope Historic District, and the community of Hope might get telephone service.
